Mortgage holders 'can expect base rate to hold in short-term'

Mortgage holders can expect the base rate of interest to hold in
the short-term, it has been suggested.
According to the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI), it
is unlikely that policy makers will opt to raise this soon, meaning
homeowners - including those with a distinctive property in the West Midlands - can expect
stable repayment levels.
It made its comments after the Monetary Policy Committee revealed
it was to keep the base rate at 0.5 per cent in March.
The organisation has drawn the same conclusion each month for the
last year.
It is one of a number of measures implemented in a bid to stimulate
the economy in Britain, including the housing market.
AMI director Robert Sinclair said: "An extended period of low
interest rates is now looking more and more likely, with an
extension to quantitative easing a better bet than a withdrawal of
the recent monetary stimulus."
