Homeowners told how to protect properties from weather
People who have recently bought properties for sale in the UK have
been given advice on how to make their homes ready for the
winter.
According to an article in the Shropshire Star, there are a few
things that can be done in order to protect houses from the harsh
cold weather.
Property blogger Lea Beven told homeowners and landlords to give
exposed pipes "a once over" to check whether the lagging is fitted
on them correctly.
"It is a lot cheaper to prevent freezing or burst pipes than it is
to repair them afterwards," she said.
Ms Beven also told buy
to let owners to advise tenants in a communal property to
always close the front door properly, as the cold can damage some
of the internal flats.
She added that landlords with empty houses and people who are going
away over the winter should make sure that pipes are drained
properly and suggested leaving the heating on low, instead of
putting it off altogether.
In addition to Ms Beven's advice, home insurance provider Hiscox
recently recommended making sure tanks and pipes in unheated areas
are correctly insulated.
